CD review: COLE PORTER IN PARIS, Les Frivolites Parisiennes

Portraying Cole Porter’s life in Paris, in the style of a musical narrative, conjuring his personality and his emotional journey combined with his love for France, Paris and Parisian life, Cole Porter in Paris transports the listener back to the roaring 20’s.

To a time and place where falling in love was all that mattered. Drunk on the atmosphere of a Parisian evening, the city lit up beautifully and was ready to be explored.

There are a few fresh arrangements of Porter classics, such as ‘Let’s Misbehave’, ‘You’re the Top’ and ‘Take me Back to Manhattan’, as well as some of his lesser-known songs. Some have an air of the jazz style about them making the album very easy listening.

Featuring the lead vocals of Marion Tassou, Leovanie Raud, Richard Delestre, Yoni Amar and Mattieu Michard, backed by a full orchestra and recorded live, this album is one to transport you away from your troubles or those dark and dank winter nights.

So whether you a fan of the classical musical genre or Cole Porter himself, this album is one for the Christmas list.

**** Four stars
