Casting has been announced for Hilary Mantel’s The Mirror and the Light, which will receive its world premiere in the West End from 23 September.

The production, which has been adapted for the stage by Hilary Mantel and Ben Miles, is based on the final novel in the award-winning Wolf Hall trilogy.

Returning to his role as Thomas Cromwell is the previously announced Ben Miles, alongside Nathaniel Parker reprising his Olivier award-winning and Tony-award nominated role as Henry VIII.

This production will be the biggest so far in the series with a cast of 23. Thirteen have been announced today, five of whom will also be returning to their roles from earlier plays. As well as Miles and Parker, they are Nicholas Boulton (Duke of Suffolk), Matt Pidgeon (Stephen Gardiner), and Giles Taylor (Archbishop Cranmer).

Completely new to the production will be Rosanna Adams as Anna of Cleves, Paul Adeyefa as Cristophe, Aurora Burghart as Elizabeth Seymour, Terique Jarrett as Gregory Cromwell, Jordan Kouamé as Rafe Sadler, Geoffrey Lumb as Thomas Wriothesley, Olivia Marcus as Jane Seymour, Tony Turner as Kingston, Leo Wan as Richard Riche, and Nicholas Woodeson as the Duke of Norfolk. Adams, Burghart and Kouamé are all making their professional debuts.

The trilogy, charting the rise and fall of Thomas Cromwell, was commissioned, and developed for the stage by Playful Productions and the Royal Shakespeare Company. Returning to direct is Jeremy Herrin, who was previously nominated for an Olivier award, a Tony award, and won the Evening Standard award for the first two productions.

Christopher Oram also returns to this production, after his work on scenic and costume design won both Olivier and Tony Awards for his work on Wolf Hall and Bring Up the Bodies. Lighting design is by Jessica Hung Han Yun, with music by Stephen Warbeck and sound design by Nick Powell.

Full casting will be announced at a later date.

Tickets are now on sale here for the limited season, which runs until 28 November at the Gielgud Theatre.
