Casting announced for UK premiere of OPERATION EPSILON at Southwark Playhouse

Full casting has been announced for Alan Brody’s award-winning play Operation Epsilon, which plays at Southwark Playhouse Elephant from 15 September-21 October.

Andy Sandberg directs an ensemble cast of eleven that includes Nicholas Armfield (The Misandrist, Arcola Theatre) as Horst Korsching, Jamie Bogyo (Aspects of Love, West End) as Carl Friederich von Weizsäcker, Simon Bubb (War Horse, West End) as Major T.H. Rittner, Simon Chandler (Ravens: Spassky vs. Fischer and Porfiry Semyonovich Glagolyev, Hampstead Theatre) as Max von Laue, Matthew Duckett (Newsies, Troubadour Wembley Park) as Erich Bagge, Jake Mann (Cymbeline, RSC) as Karl Wirtz, Olivier Award winner Nathaniel Parker (The Mirror and the Light, West End) as Otto Hahn, Peter Prentice (Bodies, Southwark Playhouse) as Paul Harteck, Leighton Pugh (The Lehman Trilogy, UK tour) as Walter Gerlach, Simon Rhodes (Posh, UK tour) as Kurt Diebner, and Gyuri Sarossy (Measure for Measure, Shakespeare’s Globe) as Werner Heisenberg.

Inspired by actual transcripts that were secretly recorded and then held classified for many decades, Operation Epsilon tells the true story of Germany’s ten foremost nuclear scientists who were rounded up and held captive in England by the British and American forces toward the end of World War II, as the Manhattan Project forged ahead in America.

This thought-provoking play makes its UK première at Southwark Playhouse Elephant, celebrating the 10th anniversary of the critically acclaimed US production. Operation Epsilon shines a light on the ethical complexity of scientific discovery…and its potential for catastrophic consequences.
