Casting announced for UK premiere of FIRST DATE at Old Joint Stock Theatre
Casting has been announced for the multi-award winning comedy musical riot, First Date, which receives its UK premiere at Birmingham’s Old Joint Stock Theatre from 7-25 August.
The cast includes Michali Dantes (Dick Whittington, Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch) as Aaron, Rokaya (professional debut) as Casey, Lowri Hamer (Salad Days, New Union Theatre/Theatre Royal Bath) as Woman 1, Tom Kiteley (Debate: Baldwin vs Buckley, West End) as Man 1, and Joey Warne (Alice in Wonderland, UK tour) as Man 2.
When blind date newbie Aaron is set up with serial-dater Casey, a casual drink at a busy New York restaurant turns into a hilarious high-stakes dinner. As the date unfolds in real time, the couple quickly finds that they are not alone on this unpredictable evening. In a delightful and unexpected twist, Casey and Aaron's inner critics take on a life of their own when other restaurant patrons transform into supportive best friends, manipulative exes and protective parents, who sing and dance them through ice-breakers, appetisers and potential conversational land mines.
Can this couple turn what could be a dating disaster into something special before the check arrives?
The production is directed by James Edge, with musical direction by Callum Thompson, and set design by Tom McVeigh and Joanna Marshall.
