Casting announced for Royal Exchange’s postponed THE GLASS MENAGERIE

Casting has been announced for Atri Banerjee’s fresh retelling of The Glass Menagerie, which will be staged at the Royal Exchange Theatre from 2 September-8 October.

Originally programmed for 2020 and postponed due to the pandemic, this contemporary production brings all four original cast members back together; Geraldine Somerville (Cracker, Harry Potter) as Amanda Wingfield, Rhiannon Clements (Hollyoaks) as Laura, Joshua James (Fathers and Sons, Donmar Warehouse) as Tom and Eloka Ivo (The Gods are Not to Blame, Almeida) as Jim.

Tennessee Williams’ semi-autobiographical play pulls apart the complex dynamics of an oppressive family life, and shows how unpredictable, painful and volatile memory can be.

Stunningly designed for the Exchange’s unique stage, this 2022 production reunites director Banerjee with designer Rosanna Vize, continuing their creative collaboration following the successes of Britannicus (Lyric Hammersmith Theatre) and Harm (Bush Theatre).

The production features lighting by Lee Curran, sound by Giles Thomas, movement by Anthony Missen, and casting by Jerry Knight-Smith CDG.
