Casting announced for new musicals festival MTFestUK

Casting has been announced for new musicals festival MTFestUK, playing at the Turbine Theatre from 17-29 May, before embarking on a virtual tour from 31 May-4 July - and what a line-up it is!

Far From Heaven is a powerful story of romance, betrayal, and intolerance, as a woman grapples with her identity in a society on the verge of upheaval. It will feature Cory English, Tiffany Graves, Aimee Hodnett, Melanie La Barrie, Ako Mitchell, Bryce Pinkham and Scarlett Strallen. It has a book by Richard Greenberg, music by Scott Frankel, lyrics by Michael Korle, direction by Matthew White and musical direction by Alex Parker.

#50Days is a grime musical, which tells the story of the period when the very foundations of England were shattered. It will star Aminita Francis, Nadine-Rose Johnson, Reuben Joseph, Kyran Mitchell-Nanton, Robert Saunders and Cleve September. It has been created and written by Thabo Stuck, with direction by Ajjaz Awad and musical direction by Amiir Salem.

Andrew Lippa’s The Man in the Ceiling follows a young boy who wants to be come a successful cartoonist. Appearing in this production will be Matthew Croke, Jazz Jenkins, Lippa himself and Sharon Rose. It has a book by Jules Feiffer, with direction by Annabel Mutale Reed and musical direction by Richard Beadle.

Millennials turns up the microphone on the lives, the losses and the frustrations of young people in the modern world. It features Luke Bayer, Allie Daniel, Beth Hinton-Lever, Nathan Lorainey-Dineen, Tim Mahendran, Grace Mouat and Jodie Steele. It is written by Elliot Clay, with direction by Luke Sheppard and musical direction by Katy Richardson.

Housefire, by P Burton-Morgan and Felix Hagan, is an eco rock musical, featuring Alex Cardall, Eleanor Kane and Robin Simões da Silva. It sees direction by Burton-Morgan and musical direction by Mark Collins.

Inspired by the life of Marie Antoinette, Cake features Tori Allen-Martin, Emma Kingston, Phoebe Panaretos and Sebastien Torkia. It has music and lyrics by Jack McManus and Tasha Taylor-Johnson, with book and lyrics by Morgan Lloyd Malcolm and direction by Drew McOnie.

Caroline Kay’s Daisy centres on a woman who wakes up without her memory. It stars Jessica Cervi, Chris Chung, Caroline Kay and Sharon Sexton - as directed by Séimí Campbell and musically directed by Sarah Travis.

Tony! (A Tony Blair Rock Opera) is a reckless reappraisal of the life of former Bad Rumours front man and Britain’s first pop Prime Minister Tony Blair. It has book and lyrics by Harry Hill and Steve Brown, with direction by Peter Rowe and musical directon by Sarah Travis. Appearing will be Jenna Boyd, Scott Garnham, Gemma Knight Jones, Marie Lawrence, Simon Lipkin, Nicola Sloane and Paul Thornley.
