Cast announced for world premiere of U.ME: THE MUSICAL with special guest narrator Stephen Fry
A brand new musical, staged for radio and podcast, will hit the BBC’s airwaves on 12 May 2021 at 8pm. U.Me: The Musical is a product of creativity during the pandemic and tells the love story of two young people on opposite sides of the world who make a real connection online.
A truly international story and cast, the musical is spearheaded by Anoushka Lucas (Jesus Christ Superstar) and Martin Sarreal in the lead roles of Rose and Ryo. Sarreal has previously worked with the show’s composer Theo Jamieson on Here Lies Love at the National Theatre. The cast is completed by students from Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA), the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and musicians from all over the North West of England.
Stephen Fry has been announced as the special guest narrator, providing a moving introduction for the piece.
If you miss the broadcast hour of the world premiere on BBC World Service on 12 May at 8pm, the production will be released episodically on BBC Sounds as a podcast. Chapter One will be available on 10 May 2021.
