Cast announced for UK tour of AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS

Tilted Wig have announced the cast for their tour of Around the World in 80 Days, which opens at York Theatre Royal on 2 February 2023.

Adapted and directed by Juliet Forster, in collaboration with York Theatre Royal, this brand-new adaptation of Jules Verne’s iconic story will then tour the UK until July 2023.

Each member of the cast will multi-role as a rag-tag band of travelling circus performers that embark on a daring mission to recreate Phileas Fogg’s race around the world.

Alex Phelps (As You Like It, Shakespeare’s Globe/CBeebies) will play the determined Ringmaster, Phileas Fogg, with Katriona Brown (There’s a Rang-Tan in My Bedroom and Other Stories, Little Angel Theatre) as acrobat Nellie Bly, Genevieve Sabherwal (My Grandma’s a Walrus, Southwark Playhouse) as the Aouda, The Trick Rider, Wilson Benedito (50 Ways to Kill Your Lover, Amazon) as The Clown, Passepartout, and Eddie Mann (Rocketman, Paramount) as the sharp-witted Knife Thrower, Detective Fix.

Unlike other productions of Jules Verne’s Around the World in 80 Days, Forster’s adaptation takes an alternative approach in simultaneously telling the true story of Nellie Bly, who really set the record in 1889 – and with a faster time.

Jules Verne’s original characters are transformed, embracing different modes of transport and highlighting interesting themes of whose stories get told and who should stand aside to give space to the untold ones.
