Cast announced for JM Barrie's beloved romcom QUALITY STREET 2023 tour

The cast has been announced for J.M. Barrie’s beloved romantic and delicious regency comedy, Quality Street, which tours the UK from March-July 2023.

Yes, you read that right. The play that originally named that delectable treat you gorged on over Christmas is heading on tour, bringing dollops of sweetness – and Yorkshire wit – to audiences around the country.

Now revived in a co-production with New Vic Theatre and Northern Broadsides after the acclaimed original run of 2020 was cut short by the pandemic, Quality Street will opens at the New Vic Theatre in March and concludes on World Chocolate Day.

Created with a team of retired workers at the Halifax Quality Street™ factory and penned by the beloved writer of Peter Pan, Quality Street follows the story of the spirited Phoebe Throssel who runs a school for unruly children on Quality Street.

Ten years after a tearful goodbye, her old flame, Captain Valentine, returns from fighting Napoleon, but the look of disappointment on his face when he greets an older, less glamorous Phoebe spurs our determined heroine to become the wild and sparkling ‘Miss Livvy’, a younger alter-ego who soon beguiles the clueless Captain.

As their romance is rekindled, and ‘Miss Livvy’ melts the Captain’s heart, Phoebe must juggle both personas while trying to avoid scandalizing the town with her deception, or wrecking her future with the man she loves.

Phoebe Throssel will be played by Paula Lane (Coronation Street, ITV), with Aron Julius (As You Like It, Northern Broadsides) as Captain Valentine.

Two cast members reprise their roles from the original run: Alicia McKenzie (Small Island, National Theatre) as Mary Willoughby/Lotte and Louisa-May Parker (Coronation Street, ITV) as Susan Throssel.

Joining them are Jelani D’Aguilar (My Voice Was Heard But It Was Ignored, Red Ladder Theatre Company) as Fanny Willoughby/Isabella/Sandra, Alice Imelda (Stick Man, Freckle Productions) as Charlotte Parratt/Jo, Alex Moran (War Horse, National Theatre) as Ensign Blades/Arthur/Brenda, Jamie Smelt (Ackley Bridge, Channel 4) as Recruiting Sergeant/Georgy/Lieutenant Spicer, and Gilly Tompkins (Gangsta Granny, National Tour and Garrick, West End) as Patty/Barbara.

After its run at the New Vic, the production will visit Eastbourne, Northampton, Richmond, Bolton, Leeds, York, Sheffield, Hull, Scarborough, Guildford, Keswick, Blackpool, and Halifax.
