Cast & creative team announced for MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET at Barn Theatre
The Barn Theatre have announced the cast and creative team for their upcoming revival of the musical Million Dollar Quartet, which runs in Cirencester from 6 June–16 July.
Million Dollar Quartet follows the events of the December 4, 1956 recording session at Memphis’ Sun Studio that brought four of the music’s best talents together for a once-in-a-life-time event: Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley.
The recording session retains its historical significance as a landmark event in the age of Rock n’ Roll, and a milestone for the genre in the ever-changing world of the 20th century popular culture and mass media. In the decades that ensued, The Million Dollar Quartet in 1956 has often been referred to as the “Mount Rushmore of Rock n’ Roll.”
The cast for the production are Joe Bence (Lord Dismiss Us) as Jerry Lee Lewis, Joe Butcher (Never Lost At Home, Buddy – the Buddy Holly Musical) as Fluke, Olivia-Faith Kamau (professional debut, 2021 graduate) as Dyanne, AJ Jenks (Buddy – The Buddy Holly Musical) as Elvis Presley, Lucas Koch (2022 graduate) as Johnny Cash, Melker Nilsson (The Wicker Husband) as Brother Jay, Jay Osborne (The Osmonds, Cilla – The Musical) as Carl Perkins and Simon Shorten (Les Misèrables, The Phantom of the Opera, Matilda) as Sam Phillips.
Million Dollar Quartet is based on an original concept by Floyd Mutrux, who also directed the original production. The new revival production features the songs of the legendary performers and has a book by Mutrux and Colin Escott.
The revival will be directed by Alex Sutton, with musical direction by Sam Beveridge, set design by Mike Leopold, costumes by Denise Cleal, lighting by Andy Webb and sound by Chris Cleal.
