Busking initiative launched to bridge the gap for stage performers
A nationwide initiative has been launched to encourage performers to busk in socially distanced spaces, such as parks and theatre foyers, from 2 October.
Conceived by producer William Burdett-Coutts and arts consultant Kim Acland, ‘Big heArt Busk’ aims to bridge the gap until artists are able to go back to work in venues.
In addition, performers will be able to record their acts and upload them to Showcatcher.com to reach more people online. The platform allows them to also provide details on shows they are involved in or will be in the near future.
Burdett-Coutts said: “We are announcing the ‘Big heArt Busk’ today to give the artists and performers time to rehearse before October 2. We hope the country’s performers get such a good response form the public that they will continue busking until they go are able to get back to work on stage as normal.”
The scheme even has the backing of Stephen Fry! He said: “This is a great idea. Naturally, I’m in favour of anything that might help energise, renew and revivify the performing arts.”
To take part, performers must register and submit their proposed plans here.
