Broadway theatres remain closed until 2021

In incredibly sad (albeit not unexpected) news this afternoon, it has been announced that Broadway theatres will remain dark until 3 January 2021 at the earliest.

The Broadway League has committed to refunding/exchanging all tickets up until this date, due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, which has already caused the industry’s longest shutdown in history.

41 New York theatres closed on 12 March 2020 and with the continuing uncertainty about when they may be able to re-open, some Broadway shows have already moved their opening dates to 2021 including: The Music Man revival (starring Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster) and the transfer of Caroline, Or Change with Sharon D Clarke.

President Charlotte St Martin said: “Our membership is working closely with the theatrical unions and in concert with key experts and some of the greatest minds inside and outside of the industry to explore protocols for all aspects of reopening. We are focused on identifying and implementing necessary measures that will enable us to resume performances safely for Broadway audiences and employees.”
