Broadway on Demand have announced today that their theatre-focused streaming platform will be presenting a line-up of special performances, each being streamed for a varying period.

Shows featured include; La Jolla Payhouse’s Spittin Truth to Power, The Hub Theatre Group’s James Baldwin Project, The Conviction of Lady Lorraine written and performed by Dwandra Nickole Lampkin, a hip-hop retelling of the Grimm Fairytales called Grimmz Fairy Tales, and Martin’s Dream, a one-man show about Martin Luther King Jr.

Renowned San Diego poet Alyce Smith Cooper and LA DJ Shammy Dee have collaborated to bring us the La Jolla Playhouse commissioned piece, which is a three-part spoken-verse show displaying the intimate vulnerability of prayer and encompasses the past/present, the yin/yang, and male/female. It is a piece that will be a personal moment for everyone. Spittin Truth to Power is available to watch here.

Hub Theatre Group introduces The Dream Unrealized: The James Baldwin Project, a theatrical video that takes Baldwin’s arguments and experiences of many other African Americans to underline that there has not been enough change made in today’s society. Actors Judine Somerville, Alex Hairston, DeAundre’Woods, Jenny Laroche and Tayler Harris tell their stories and lend their voices to Baldwin’s powerful words. This is available to watch until 31 January here.

The Conviction of Lady Lorraine is set in Memphis near the Lorraine Motel where Dr Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated. A writer (Dwandra Nickole Lampkin) has a brief encounter with Lady Lorraine, a lady on a 20-year quest to right a social wrong. This encounter, however brief, is powerful and transforms the writer, who a year later returns to Memphis, in a hope that Lady Lorraine will share her story. The writer finds herself asking many new questions about herself and finds that Lady Lorraine is not the only one on a quest for recognition. The piece is available until 24 January here.

The hip-hop fable story dance sensation Jay and Will Grimmz have come back to the city where they grew up to present their modern spin on the life lessons in Snow White and the Seven Shawties, Down with Rapunzel, Hanzel & Gretel: Lost in the Streets and their brand new release Cinderella Remix in Grimmz Fairy Tales. Presented by the Children’s Theatre of Charlotte, it is streaming now until 31 March here.

Deondra Kamau Means puts on his one-man show about national hero, Martin Luther King Jr, using Martin’s Dream to bring the person behind the pictures to life through the power of story, speech and song. It shows a funny, intelligent, passionate man whose faith made him one of the most revered people in US history. Streaming now, you can catch Martin’s Dream until 30 June here.

Plenty to watch, Besties!
