In a new partnership with Digital Theatre, Bristol Old Vic On Screen is making the incredible Wonder Boy available to stream for a limited run from 23-29 May.

The acclaimed show Wonder Boy, written by Rob Willis, is a truly heartwarming story that highlights the importance of inclusivity in a funny, emotional and beautiful way, directed by the Olivier Award-Winning director Sally Cookson (A Monster Calls) in a wonderful display that can be enjoyed by everyone.

Wonder Boy tells the story of a 12 year-old Sonny, who is living with a stammer and trying to navigate a world controlled by language and where small talk is his greatest nemesis. When Sonny is cast in a school production of Hamlet, he discovers how communication is strength.

After the celebrated world premiere in March, the show gained a huge audience and raked in top reviews and critical acclaim, Bristol Old Vic have announced they are releasing a film of the production, recorded live at the theatre itself, to contain their effort to make theatre accessible to everyone.

Wonder Boy was focused on being as accessible to its audiences as it could be, with creative captioning in every show, which was fully integrated and used as a driving point in the show’s story telling instead of the regular closed captioning theatres are used to, BSL interpretation, a socially distanced performance and three live global broadcasts during its limited run.

Its thriving and continuous success only goes to prove how audiences want to see theatre be available to all, no matter what physical, geographical or economic barriers there may be.

Tickets for the streamed show are available to purchase in advance here.
