Birmingham Royal Ballet announce London dates and extra Birmingham performance of BLACK SABBATH - THE BALLET

Due to phenomenal demand, Birmingham Royal Ballet have announced extra dates and performances for Black Sabbath - The Ballet.

An additional performance is now on sale for their sold out run at Birmingham Hippodrome on 24 September at 1pm, with dates announced for Sadlers Wells, London from 18-21 October (on sale from 22 May) and Plymouth Theatre Royal from 12-14 October.

A full-length, three-act Ballet Now commission of this brand-new work is a heavy metal dance experience that will feature 8 Black Sabbath tracks, (‘Paranoid’, ‘Ironman’, ‘Black Sabbath’, ‘Solitude’, ‘Orchid’, ‘Laguna Sunrise’ and ‘Sabbath Bloody Sabbath’), re-orchestrated for the Royal Ballet Sinfonia, plus new music inspired by the band, performed live with onstage guitars and drums integrated into the performance.

The production has lead choreography by Pontus Lidberg, with lead composition by Christopher Austin, design by Alexandre Arrechea and dramaturgy by Richard Thomas.

Black Sabbath – The Ballet is the second Birmingham focused commission from Carlos Acosta, who joined Birmingham Royal Ballet in 2020, just before the pandemic hit. The first, A City of a Thousand Trades, looked at the city’s industrial heritage and multicultural communities, premiering in 2021.

Black Sabbath played their first ever gig in The Crown pub, just a stone’s throw from the ballet’s Thorp Street base. The pub was recently saved from demolition and is deemed a heritage site for fans.
