Blue Orange Theatre stands strong in bringing pantomime to Birmingham this December
Birmingham’s Blue Orange Theatre has announced it will proceed with its Christmas pantomime, Sleeping Beauty, this year; despite many other venues being forced to postpone their festive productions.
From the same creative team as last year’s production of Aladdin, Sleeping Beauty will run from 24 November – 13 December 2020. It will operate at a reduced capacity of 40% and will adhere to all Covid-19 safety measures necessary including temperature checks, hand sanitiser stations, track and trace processes, contactless payments and an OrderToSeat service.
Producer, James Williams, said: “We are delighted to welcome West End sensation Paul Hutton (Billy Elliot, The Producers, Elf the Musical) to the team as writer for this well-known favourite which promises laughter, magic and family fun throughout. Audiences can cheer for Princess Aurora, laugh with Jeremy the Jester and boo the wicked fairy, Carabosse. It has been a difficult year for the arts nationally and an affordable panto treat is just what the city needs!”
“We know that the people of Birmingham are looking forward to panto so we have introduced safety measures which we trialled during our recent cinema season. I’m pleased to say that they have been well received and after the events of 2020, the great British panto tradition has never been more welcome – join us to get your family into the festive spirit!”
Further casting will be announced in due course.
