Belgrade Theatre announces casting for the world premiere of FIGHTING IRISH

The Belgrade Theatre have announced casting for Fighting Irish ahead of its upcoming world premiere from 2-16 April, as part of the venue’s Coventry UK City of Culture 2021 programme.

Fighting Irish is set in Dublin in 1979 and follows Jarlath McGough, Coventry’s newest light-heavyweight champion and his return to Ireland to defend his title. The remarkable fight for identity is set amongst the backdrop of prejudice, corrupt officials and warring factions. Based on true events, Fighting Irish comes from first time writer Jamie McGough.

Leading the cast as Jarlath McGough will be Louis Ellis, Christian James will play Sean McGough, Daniel Krikler will play Martin McGough Jr, Colm Gormley will play Martin McGough Sr, Rosalind Steele will play Eileen McGough and completing the McGough family as Jimmy will be Peter Losasso.

Completing the cast will be Andrew Fettes as Billy Duffin, George McCluskey as Frank Bannon, Dan McGarry as Joe Lawless and Eddy Payne will take on multiple roles.

The play will be co-directed by Belgrade’s Creative Director Corey Campbell and Hamish Glen, with set and costumes by Patrick Connellan, lighting by Joe Hornsby and sound by Oliver Howard and Jason Sylvester.
