Barbican to reopen with a unique performance series including stars Maxine Peake & Shappi Khorsandi
The Barbican has announced it will be reopening from 24 November with a unique series of performances.
Each 30-minute piece, which could be "anything from comedy to drama or dance to poetry", will be held for only six people at a time, solely lit by the stage’s ghost light. Audiences will not find out in advance what their performance will be.
Marc Almond, Inua Ellams, Shappi Khorsandi, Maxine Peake and Selina Thompson are among the confirmed performers taking part in The Ghost Light event series.
The project has been devised by director Purni Morell and Fieldwork actor Christian Roe.
Barbican’s Head of Theatre and Dance, Toni Racklin, said: "We’re thrilled to be reopening our theatre spaces and welcoming back artists and audiences after this period of enforced closure.
"During lockdown and beyond we’ve moved our international theatre and dance programme online. Now, we’re excited to announce our autumn activity, starting with The Ghost Light in the Theatre, a unique experience for an audience of one with up to five guests."
Tickets for The Ghost Light will be available via an online lottery and successful applicants will be contacted at least one week before the performance. They can then purchase up to an additional five tickets.
The Ghost Light runs from 24 November to 5 December. Certain performances will be filmed and made available for free on YouTube after the event period has ended.
