Barbican Theatre announces plans for a new season of shows
The Barbican Theatre has announced two new productions, which will form part of its reopening season.
The previously reported project, The Ghost Light, will kick off the new season as a live experience for one audience member and up to five of their guests. Tickets for this special event will be through an online lottery. A number of The Ghost Light shows will then be streamed after the show run has ended.
Head of Theatre and Dance, Toni Racklin, said “We’re thrilled to be reopening our theatre spaces and welcoming back artists after this period of enforced closure. During lockdown and beyond we’ve moved our international theatre and dance programme online. Now, we’re excited to announce our autumn activity, starting with The Ghost Light, a unique experience for an audience of one, with up to five guests. Then we continue with a newly commissioned, online interactive children’s show, We Cover The Universe”
We Cover The Universe is a new show by Akin, which will be available via Zoom between 10 - 20 December 2020.
The show designed for the under-fives, parents/carers and extended families brings together gentle play, drawing and poetry. Audiences will be introduced to Dot when she is feeling small. She’s stuck in a grey room until, one day, she begins to draw and dream. She plucks up the courage to venture out of the little room, encountering a wonderful world of colour, and in the process learning that there is more to life than she ever thought.
The play features two performers guiding children and adults through simple movement and inventive art making activities, using basic household objects, feel and sound. With plenty of music and fun, this playful production will take families on a journey together transforming items and spaces before their very eyes, all via Zoom.
