Award-winning actor/writer Eva O'Connor returns to Summerhall with climate apocalypse comedy

The latest play from Irish writer and performers Eva O’Connor and Hildegard Ryan, Afloat, will be performed from 6-29 August at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Summerhall Online.

Afloat explores the story of two best friends surviving in Dublin, after the climate apocalypse has hit and the city is completely underwater. The show will explore themes of loss, sisterhood, and climate anxiety and is presented as part of the Culture Ireland Showcase at Edinburgh 2021.

Eva O’Connor’s previous plays include Kiss Me and You’ll See How Important I Am, My Name is Saoirse, Overshadowed (which was recently adapted for TV with Rollem Productions for BBC Three, where it won the Mind Media Award for Best Drama 2019), The Friday Night Effect, Maz and Bricks and most recently, the award-winning Mustard, which was nominated for the Scottish Mental Health Award in 2019, and won a Fringe First, and a Summerhall Lustrum Award.

The production is being produced by O’Connor and Ryan’s company, Sunday’s Child Theatre, and Fishamble, with direction by Anna Simpson, set and costume design by Naomi Faughnan, and lighting by Suzie Cummins.

Afloat will star Eva O’Connor, Annette O’Shea, and Michael David.
