Arcola Theatre announces programming for 2023

The Arcola Theatre has announced its programming for the upcoming 2023 season, opening with dark comic thriller Under the Black Rock, starring Evanna Lynch (Harry Potter).

Under the Black Rock, written by Tim Edge, plays from 2-25 March and is set in Northern Ireland at the height of the Troubles. Lynch plays Niamh who is drawn into the conflict in a community where no one is quite who they seem to be.

From 7–29 April, Joanna Lau’s WORTH sees the Yeung siblings gather in the family home hours before their mother’s funeral. Tensions rise as they race to find exactly where the family’s money has gone. Uncovering ugly truths and shocking secrets along the way. Inspired by true events, this is a dark, but comical look at loss and sibling rivalry.

Written by Lisa Carroll, The Misandrist is a new comedy about the search for sexual knowledge, true love and top-notch Tupperware. Rachel and Sule meet at a bar, share an Uber home and suddenly realise they’ve fallen in to a casual relationship. Adrift, isolated and insecure, they look for new ways to connect, can the pitfalls of modern relationships provide the possibility of personal fulfilment? This production plays in Studio 1 from 10 May-10 June.

The Unicorn by Sam Potter features Alice Lamb as Andrea, playing in Studio 2 from 7-24 June. After being fired from her job and overwhelmed by feelings of frustration and depression, she attempts to combat her loneliness through casual sex, but can this distraction actually be taking over her life?

From 27 June-15 July, Duck (written by maatin) tells the story of “Smiley” – Ismail, the star of the cricket team, setting his sights on being the youngest member of the First XI and having his name immortalised in Wisden. However, as new coach Mr Eagles takes an instant dislike to him, he discovers that cricket might not be the gentlemanly game he once thought it was.
