Arch 468 announce UK tour & online stream for thought provoking, pro-abortion play VESSEL

Vessel

Following a successful run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2018, Arch 468 have today announced the pro-abortion play Vessel will embark on a UK tour from 14 October.

The play, which is inspired by Ireland’s abortion referendum, tackles the increasingly complex issues around women’s bodies and their right to personal choice.

Written by Irish writer Laura Wyatt O’Keeffe, the play has a feminist narrative and is set in Ireland in 2018 when abortion was still illegal. It follows doctor’s receptionist Maia who is moved into action after another pregnant underage girl dies. Her crusade sees her impregnate herself and garner press attention as she campaigns for a law change and divides the nation.

Maia will be played by Julie Maguire, Esther Ayo-James will play Sarah and Jonathan Tynan Moss will play John.

The play tours from 14-22 October and will visit Beverley, Gillingham, London, Sheffield, Coventry and Bedford, with a digital screening available from 25 October-14 November.

Writer Laura Wyatt O’Keeffe said: “I started writing this play in 2014 when the idea of abortion being legalised in Ireland seemed impossible. And now I’m touring the show in 2021, when Texas has just made abortion an impossible choice for its citizens, Poland took back those rights last year and people are still travelling to other countries to access safe healthcare. Our rights are under attack and our bodies are their starting point.”

Tickets are on sale now.
