Despite previously strong views that his new West End production of Cinderella would open in May, Andrew Lloyd Webber has now stated that he is unsure when the show will open in a recent radio interview.

Speaking to Zoe Ball on BBC Radio 2, he is now taking the stance that the musical, starring Carrie Hope Fletcher in the title role, will open in the summer but he cannot be “precise” about when exactly.

Lloyd Webber also stressed how all theatres must be “safe, clean and as well ventilated as possible” when they re-open, in order for them to remain so going forward.

The composer has used the shutdown period to undertake work on his theatres, adding that the improvements made to Her Majesty’s Theatre, home to the West End production of The Phantom of the Opera, will make the iconic production better than ever.
