An exciting cast of rising talents announced for Lazarus Theatre Company’s contemporary HAMLET
It has been announced that one of Shakespeare’s most regularly revisited tragedies will be radically transformed next year with a new production of Hamlet by Lazarus Theatre Company, featuring a cast of exciting young talent.
In this new production, which will be staged at the Southwark Playhouse, the action will take place in an urban community of lost teenagers. The classic tale, with violent twists and physical and mental intensity and intricate personalities, will be reworked into a strikingly unpredictable and contemporary show.
Michael Hawkey, in his professional debut, will play the role of the tormented prince Hamlet, with Lexine Lee as Ophelia, also in her professional debut.
The ensemble includes Jaun Hernandez, Amber Mendez-Martin, Raj Swamy, Micha Columbo, Alex Zur, Sam Morris and Kalifa Taylor.
This cast of young talent will create an enticing, raw and gutsy interpretation of the iconic Shakespeare play, revitalising the suspense and shock of the Elizabethan tragedy.
Artistic Director of Lazarus Theatre Company, Ricky Dukes, said: “It’s tremendous to have assembled such a talented, gifted, energetic, focussed and ‘up for it’ company of young performers ready to take on this iconic play. With over 3000 submissions it took us a while to whittle it down to the final 9, but blimey what a fantastic bunch they are, it’s going to be a real privilege and honour creating this new production with them.”
