Oscar-nominated actress Amy Adams has signed up to star as Cynthia Murphy in Universal’s musical film adaptation of Dear Evan Hansen.

Adams will play Connor’s mother in the film and will join the previously reported all-star cast including Ben Platt, Kaitlyn Dever, Amandla Stenberg, Colton Ryan and Nik Dodani.

The film has been penned by Steven Levenson, who also wrote the book for the stage musical, and features music and lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. Stephen Chbosky will direct.

Adams was last seen on screen in 2018 with roles in Vice and Sharp Objects.
