ALW’s Cinderella postponed until Spring 2021
Previously scheduled to open this Autumn, the premiere of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cinderella has now been pushed back until Spring 2021.
The brand new production, which is a reimagination of the classic fairytale, will begin previews at London’s Gillian Lynne Theatre on 19 March 2021 with its press night on 7 April 2021.
Carrie Hope Fletcher will perform in the title role with Victoria Hamilton-Barritt as the Stepmother. Additional casting details will follow.
Laurence Connor will direct the show with JoAnn M Hunter on board as choreographer. The book has been written by Emmy Award-nominated scriptwriter Emerald Fennell and features a score by the aforementioned Lloyd Webber and lyrics by David Zippel.
Lloyd Webber said "Whilst I continue to impress on the government that theatres can reopen safely based on The London Palladium model, it has become clear that we need to move the opening of Cinderella to next Spring. My teams have been working throughout lockdown to prepare the show and are raring to go, but there are key elements, not least casting and the building of sets and costumes, that take months of forward planning and can only start as we get further down the road to normal. So the show will absolutely go on, just a little later than I'd hoped."
Ticketholders will be contacted about existing bookings in due course. For further information, please visit www.andrewlloydwebberscinderella.com.
