Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cinderella announces full recording release and rescheduled opening date

Following the first song release from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cinderella yesterday, Polydor Records/Ume has announced the forthcoming release of a full Original London Cast Recording, prior to the show’s West End opening.

The album will feature the cast from the upcoming stage production, plus appearances from some special guest vocalists. Recording has taken place throughout lockdown remotely, with Lloyd Webber producing much of the score from his home initially. When restrictions eased slightly, the process continued with socially distanced sessions in a London recording studio.

Andrew Lloyd Webber said: “50 years ago I couldn’t get Jesus Christ Superstar on stage as nobody wanted to produce it, so it appeared on record first. It’s so strange to find history repeating itself half a century later with the album of the complete score of my new Cinderella. I can’t get Cinderella on stage because I’m not allowed to, so I have gone back to my roots and recorded the album first.”

In light of this statement, the opening of Cinderella at the Gillian Lynne Theatre has been delayed until 19 May 2021, with previews from 30 April.

Affected ticket holders will be contacted by their point of sale to rearrange their booking.

Cinderella will star the previously announced Carrie Hope Fletcher as Cinderella and Victoria Hamilton-Barritt as the Stepmother, with further creative team and cast announcements to be made at a later date.
