2021 Queen’s Birthday Honours revealed

The 2021 Queen’s Birthday Honours have been revealed to include a number of people in the performing arts industry.

Tony Award-winning actor Jonathan Pryce has been knighted, with choreographer Arlene Phillips receiving a damehood. CBE’s have been given to singer Lulu, actor John Holder, writer Philippa Gregory, chair of Battersea Arts Centre and Brixton House, David Bryan, and director of Arts, Heritage and Tourism in DCMS, Emma Squire.

Cellist and younger brother of Andrew Lloyd Webber, Julian, has received an OBE, alongside others including playwright and performer Lolita Chakrabarti, poet and playwright Lemn Sissay, founder of Assembly Festival and former artistic director of Riverside Studios, William Burdett-Coutts, Northern Irish actress Roma Downey, former artistic director of Dance Umbrella, Emma Gladstone, and dance consultant Theresa Beattie.

Then MBE’s have been awarded to actor Ruth Wilson, opera singer Allan Clayton, dance school founder Samantha Moore, architect Steve Tompkins, executive director of enterprise and innovation at Arts Council England, Francis Runacres, and national secretary of the Scottish Community Drama Association, Morna Barron.

Medallists from the theatre world include Nottingham Playhouse panto legend Kenneth Taylor, and opera performer Dr Jeremy Williams.
